Modelio started from a simple observation: many people working in finance or business analysis in Malaysia had strong domain knowledge, but their spreadsheet models were difficult to follow, hard to check, and nearly impossible for colleagues to maintain. The problem was not a lack of ability — it was a lack of deliberate instruction in model structure.
The founders — both with backgrounds in corporate finance and professional training — spent time designing a curriculum that taught modeling as a craft. Structure first. Formulas second. Formatting and presentation last. That sequencing is what sets Modelio's approach apart from general spreadsheet tutorials.
The first cohort ran out of a small meeting room in Petaling Jaya in early 2022. Since then, Modelio has grown into a focused education provider with a course library, a template collection, and a community of alumni who continue to share work and feedback with each other.
What We Are Here to Do
Modelio exists to make spreadsheet modeling accessible and learnable for working professionals and students across Malaysia. We are not a general coding bootcamp, and we are not a finance theory provider. We teach one thing well: how to build models that are tidy, correct, and easy for others to read.
Every course we run is built around real templates and genuine exercises — not toy examples. We want participants to leave with files they can open next Monday and actually use.

Every annotated template is verified before distribution. Formulas are tested, labels are checked, and layouts are confirmed to be legible across common screen sizes.

Participant information is handled with care. We collect only what is necessary, store it securely, and do not share it with third parties for commercial purposes.

Sessions are designed to be approachable for participants from non-finance backgrounds. No question is treated as too basic, and all participants are expected to support one another.

We track which exercises cause confusion, which templates get used most, and which formulas participants find hardest — and we adjust accordingly each cohort.
Spreadsheet Modeling as a Deliberate Skill
Financial modeling in a spreadsheet is one of those skills that looks straightforward until you try to explain your own workbook to someone else, or return to a file you built six months ago. The formula bar shows the answer, but the logic behind the structure is often invisible.
At Modelio, our courses are built around making that logic visible and reproducible. We teach participants to separate input sections from calculation areas, to label assumptions clearly, to write formulas that can be read without decoding, and to format outputs in a way that communicates rather than overwhelms.
Working from our base in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, we serve learners across the Klang Valley and beyond — including finance teams, accounting students, operations analysts, and business owners who want to work more rigorously with numbers. Malaysia's growing demand for financial literacy and data skills makes this kind of practical, tool-focused education particularly relevant.
Our self-paced course, facilitated workshop, and complete program each address a different stage of learning. Some participants come with years of spreadsheet use and want to tidy up habits that have accumulated over time. Others are starting from a more structured foundation and want to build correctly from the outset. Both paths are well served by how we teach.
What Modelio does not do: we do not promise financial outcomes, and we do not teach trading, investing, or portfolio management. Our work is educational — helping people become more capable, more methodical spreadsheet builders. The decisions those skills inform belong entirely to the learner.
